Below are a list of events in the Garrett County, Maryland and Deep Creek Lake Area that may be of interest, listed by season. Many events are free or have nominal charges. Unfortunately many have been cancelled in 2020, because of COVID 19. So call and make sure they are being held before you come.
Winter Events
Ski season: Usually starting at the end of November, ski season in Maryland typically lasts through mid-March. Discounted ski lift tickets are available till mid-December. Also you can get special prices for lift tickets for Wednesdays.
Winterfest: January Ski races, bump contest, and more at the WISP Ski Resort (located 10 minutes from Haley Farm). Also a Super Pipe competition at the end of the month. Call 301-387-4911 for details
Fresh Air Christmas:
December: in downtown Oakland, with Christmas carolers, artisans, craftspeople and food.
Home for the Holidays: December: Tour of holiday homes in the Oakland area. All proceeds go to the American Red Cross.
Spring Events
Maple Syrup “Sap to Syrup” Festival: Herrington Manor State Park. Watch as maple syrup is made the old-fashioned way. For more information call: (301) 334-9180.
Guided Spring Wildflower/Bird Walks:
Potomac-Garrett State Forest: April and May. For more information call (301) 334-2038.
Spruce Forest Artisan Village:
Open from May through October. (Grantsville). Visit 9 working artisans and 14 restored historic buildings all in a pastoral setting.
Summer Events
Fishing Rodeo:
June: Awards for the largest fish and the amount of fish. Sponsored by the Friends of New Germany. For more information call: (301) 895-5759
Little Yough Summer Music Festival
Free music concerts throughout the summer in the town of Oakland. Friday evenings.
Fourth of July Celebrations:
July: With parades, music, crafts, art show, fireworks etc. Parade starts at 11am and festivities continue with free fireworks on the hill.
Chautauqua
July: Revisit the past with these wonderful characters (such as Eleanor Roosevelt, Woodrow Guthrie) coming to life. Starts on July 5th at Garrett College at 7pm under the big tent. Admission is Free.
Annual Championship Rodeo:
July: at the Garrett County Fairgrounds.
Saturday Concerts at Penn Alps:

GLAF:
Entertainment throughout the summer from “New York, New York”, to Chamber Music. July-mid August. (301-387-3082)
Annual Summerfest and Quilt Show:
July: At Spruce Forest Artisan Village. Over 250 hand-pieced quilts on display.
Annual Western Maryland Tennis Championships:

Annual Garrett County Fair:
Held in early August. Fun for all the family with carnival rides, great food, demolition derby etc.

Weekend after Labor Day.
Savage Man Triathalon
The weekend after the Art and Wine Festival. Challenge yourself with biking, swimming and running.

Apple Butter Boil:
September: At Herrington Manor. Watch the apple sauce turn into delicious tasting apple butter.

September: Yard sales, garage sales, craft shows, antiques and more in Grantsville.
Annual Springs Folk Festival:
October (first weekend in October). A celebration of the arts, crafts and culture of days gone-by. Music, and food.
Annual Autumn Glory Festival:
October (second weekend in October): Features parades, bands, arts, crafts, and much more.
Halloween Hayrides and Social:
October: At Herrington Manor State Park. Costume contest.
